Meet The Team

Khurram Irshad

Founder & Managing Director

Khurram Irshad is the founder and Managing Director of Indus Biochar. He is an entrepreneur with a thirty-year track record of executing cutting-edge projects, including patenting a process to reuse textile wastewater. He is currently the Co-founder and Chairman of LandIQ, a spatial intelligence platform that identifies where climate interventions will carry the furthest impact.

A trustee of the Irshad Foundation for nineteen years, he has supported girls' education across rural Sindh and remains connected to the farming communities his family has served for decades. Khurram holds a Masters in Industrial Management from Stony Brook University.

Uzma Khurram

Chairperson

Uzma Khurram is the Chairperson of Indus Biochar. As someone who has experience within the agricultural and chemical sector in Pakistan, she has worked directly with farmers; she has done focus groups with farmers and taught them how to utilise specific agricultural products and pesticides. She holds an MBA from The Institute of Business Administration, Karachi, and a Masters from Saint Mary's College of California

Shanzeh Khurram

Marketing & Outreach

Shanzeh Khurram is a writer, marketing specialist, and former legal representative, with degrees from UC Berkeley and The New School. As part of her legal work, she advocated for clients who were dealing with workplace injuries and discrimination. After the devastating 2022 floods in Pakistan, she shifted her focus to climate action.

She has been a part of organizations such as Climatebase, Work on Climate, and Climate Literate and currently focuses on marketing and outreach efforts at Indus Biochar.

Aizah Khurram

Technical Consultant

Aizah Khurram is a PhD candidate at UMass Amherst. Her research focuses on plant-microbe interactions, soil nutrient cycling, and ecosystem response to change, and she has contributed to a phytoremediation project aimed at improving soil health in agricultural systems.

She previously worked as a Research Associate at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL). She now serves as a technical consultant for Indus Biochar.
